We (my friend Ramon, our guide from Medan Joshuah and myself) arrived in Bukit Lawang on Saturday the 14th of July.
On arrival in the small town Jungle Edie assisted us straight away. He was very kind and helped us to choose between a couple of options.
The options were, a trekking trip with a group or the trekking trip just with the 3 of us. He said that we would have better time in the jungle if we would take the trip just with the three of us. Cause we're 3 young fit guys in the beginning 20's. This way we wouldn't have to wait for anybody taking pictures, because when you make the trip with like 10 people there are going to be more pictures taken. And this slows the group down a lot. Since we were only making a one-day trip.
Also because we are young, he said he could take us to higher grounds and paths not so easy to reach.
We took word for his advice and planned the jungle trekking trip for just the three of us. Sunday the 15th we were going to make a one-day jungle trekking trip with a guide.

The night of our arrival we were invited to a small party in the village. This party was the last party before the Ramadan would start. So Ramon and me went to the party, had some drinks and laughs. We arrived in our hotel at some late hour in the night.

On the next morning our guide would meet us at 9 ‘o clock at our hotel. When we got there it was Jungle Edie who would be our jungle guide. We were happy because we talked to him before and we knew he was the right man for the job. And so he was…

We started the trip by buying a bottle of water (1,5L) per person. Then we walked trough a rubber tree plantation. He explained us that inside the trees they make a small cut. And from that cut the fluid rubber runs slowly out of the tree into a small basket.
After like 15 min of walking we left the plantation and got into the jungle.
While walking trough the jungle we saw several beautiful plants, trees and small insects.
Sometimes we stopped to take a small rest and then Jungle Edie told us something about the trees and plants.
After a while we finally met something wherefore I came to the jungle. High up in the tree hung an Orang-Utan. While it came down we could see the Orang-Utan was not alone, but carried a small baby Orang-Utan with her. It was a very beautiful sight to see.
During the trip we saw more and more Orang-Utan’s.
We even got the see the (sometimes) aggressive Orang-Utan called Minah and we got very close to her. But luckily Minah was not aggressive this time. But on the other hand by Jungle Edie’s knowledge we knew we would be safe at any time.
Besides of the many Orang-Utan’s we saw on our trip we also saw a black gibbon.
There was also a third kind of small monkey we saw. Three of these monkeys followed us for like 45 min’s as we walked the path inside the jungle. This was quite exciting in a good way and also gave a lot of funny moments.
During the day we got to the so-called Jungle Restaurant. It was a tree trunk were we could sit and eat some lunch.
At some point after noon we got at a beautiful waterfall. There we could refill our bottles of water in the river because they were empty already. The water was very clear and drinkable.
After we got to the top of a mountain Jungle Edie told us from now on we would only go down and down, to the river. When we finally arrived at the river there was a colleague of him standing ready with a self-made raft boat. After we got a nice cooling swim we returned to the village with the raft boat. This was also great fun. Sometimes the river was a little wild but this was only more fun.
At the end of the day we were exhausted. All day walking, climbing and descending in the jungle. But it was all worth wile. We had a beautiful experience inside Geuser National Park near Bukit Lawang. And this all thanks to our knowledgeable tour guide Jungle Edie. During the trip he told us everything about the jungle and also talked about his own life. It was very pleasant to have him as our tour guide.
Thanks to him, we will never forget this day of lessons, extraordinary sights and beautiful animals.
