The Tangkahan elephant day trip starts from Bukit Lawang in the morning, you will travel around 2.5 hours on unsurfaced roads. The other traffic is the occasional motorbike. We will pass through undeveloped villages and past large palm oil plantations, a distance of around 40km in total to reach Tangkahan. Our back route saves you a seven hour journey backtracking via Medan.

Upon arrival we will visit the elephants and you have some time to explore the beautiful surroundings of Tangkahan, where two rivers meet. There is a small hot spring in the middle of the village, and you can maybe visit the Butterfly Beach.

Lunch is included in your trip price and will be taken in a riverside guesthouse.

After lunch you can continue to relax, explore, or swim in the rivers.

At 3:30pm you will go to the elephant stations to bathe the elephants in the river. This is a tactile experience where you can wash and touch the elephants as they share the cool flowing river water with you.

After the elephant bathing, we will drive back to Bukit Lawang, arriving back at dinner time (dinner not included!).
